Introduction and Plan

This blog is just a collection of bridge terms organized in a dictionary type form. It was brought about as a post on Bridge Base Forums, and I have organized it alphabetically, Enjoy!!

    1. A player who still has not mastered arythmetic, and, despite a young age, has developed an unusually sharp tongue.
    2. any player who can still see across the table without corrective lenses and whose hair is not white.

    Knave (n.):
    Various hypotheses have been presented as to what this card is worth, but with no resolution. Many agree that the knave often gets depressed and sticks a sword through its head, unless paired with a neighboring spot.

    A gadget (see gadget) used in some precision (see precision) auctions to give the asker a piece of information they were not expecting and won't know the continuations to.

    any of the three other people seated at the table with you. The ones seated to your left and right would like for you to do poorly, the one seated across from you knows that you will.

    a ceremony in which four people go around the table telling each other how much they are willing to pay for the privilige of misdeclaring (see declarer play) the hand.

    a black art that one must master alone. it has been likened by some to underwear, in that it's nobody's business but your own to learn it.
    One's declarer play often improves with the consumption of controlled substances or when coupled with the act of peeking.

    an infallible bidder, declarer and defender who never participates in an auction and never plays a card.

    An excuse used by many players to intimidate opponents by calling the director when no obvious infraction occurred.

  16. Canadian Slam Defense

    Normally the best defense to a small slam bid by two Canadian experts is two cash two aces and wait for your trump trick. If it's a Grand Slam, you only usually get to cash one ace.
